Ladies Waiting Room
Former Ladies Waiting Room - photographer: Joe Fox |
Location: Below Clyde Street, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
From the Victorian era through the 1920s or so, it was not unusual in the slightest for women in the west to have separate public spaces in cafes, restaurants, or hotels. Railway stations also put aside waiting rooms for ladies.
This ladies waiting room in Glasgow, Scotland is now in ruins. But it is haunting to imagine the lives of the ladies who once huddled between these walls while awaiting their next train. Where were they going? What were they thinking? What did they say to one another? What smiles, confidences, secrets were exchanged?
