THANK YOU to all of you butches and fems who stood on that bathroom line; Thank You to all of you butches who dared to take the chance to dress as your true selves; Thank You to all of you fems who loved them and yourselves enough to walk down a public street together. Thank You.

I first learned about The Sea Colony years ago while watching a documentary where Audre Lorde was giving a remembrance. That bar was long gone by the time I was playing around in The Village in the 1980s. But even so, I felt like even I'd lost something, with its not being there. Now, in my lifetime, I am witnessing the loss of womyn's bars and womyn's bookstores too. There is a sadness when these places that held so much of our collective energies disappear...

Anyhow, I deeply appreciate the fact that those of you in the "Sea Colony Generation" laid the groundwork for me to be able to go into a job interview and say, "Yes I do have a question. I'm a lesbian. How do the people in this department deal w/ that sort of thing? I just don't want to find myself in an uncomfortable work situation". And guess what ladies: I got that job. Been here nearly 12 years now!

Sincerely in the Struggle,

Donella-Elizabeth
Oregon, formally of New JerseyUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09943472304134546631noreply@blogger.com
